Pathway to Healing—Step 6: Ask, “What Did I Learn?”
Encouragement
Each experience, whether joyful or challenging, offers a lesson. Identifying these lessons helps you see your story as a source of wisdom and resilience, a journey rich with insights.
Spiritual Practice: Lectio Divina with Your Story
Choose one memory and read it slowly, like a poem. After reading, ask, “What word or phrase stands out?” Write it down and reflect on its meaning. Then ask, “How does this word reveal a lesson?” Repeat with other memories, allowing insights to emerge.
Creative Writing Exercise
Review each memory and try to summarize what you learned from it in one sentence. If the lesson isn’t clear, try asking, “Did this teach me resilience, compassion, or strength?” Keep a list of these lessons as a record of your personal wisdom, adding new ones as they surface.
Non-Writing Creative Exercise: Symbolic Sculpting
Using clay or playdough, create small sculptures or shapes that represent each lesson you’ve uncovered. Don’t worry about creating detailed figures; instead, focus on capturing the essence of each lesson. Arrange these sculptures in a way that feels meaningful, and take time to reflect on what each one symbolizes.
