Pathway to Healing—Step 2: Create Space for Reflection

In this blog series, I’m sharing 10 Simple Creative Spiritual Practices for Exploring and Transforming Your Life Story.

Encouragement

Reflection requires a little space, even just 10 quiet minutes. By intentionally pausing to remember, you create room for memories to surface. Giving yourself this space honors the details and feelings of each moment, building a practice of tuning into your inner world.

Spiritual Practice: Sacred Silence

Begin each reflection session with a moment of silence. Sit still and take several deep breaths, imagining that each inhale brings calm and each exhale releases distractions. Place a hand on your heart and silently say, “I am here, open and ready.” Let this silence be a sacred space where memories and feelings can emerge without rush.

Creative Writing Exercise

Set a timer for 10 minutes each day to sit in quiet reflection. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, and observe any memories that come to mind. Write down any feelings, images, or details, even if they’re just fragments. This simple practice will help you reconnect with the quieter moments in your story.

Non-Writing Creative Exercise: Memory Jar

Gather small objects that hold personal meaning (like stones, shells, or trinkets) and place them in a clear jar. As you add each object, take a moment to think about the memory it represents and hold it in your hand. Arrange these items in the jar, creating a “memory collection” you can return to whenever you want to reflect. When finished, place the jar somewhere special as a reminder of the memories you’ve honored.
