Pathway to Healing—Step 1: Start Where You Are
In this blog series, I’m sharing 10 Simple Creative Spiritual Practices for Exploring and Transforming Your Life Story.
Step 1: Start Where You Are
Encouragement
Your story holds meaning. Even if it feels “ordinary,” it has unique value and insight. Remember, each moment in your life matters, and writing it down affirms this worth. This first step is about recognizing and blessing your story.
Spiritual Practice: Blessing Your Story
Light a candle and hold a small object, like a stone or leaf, as a symbol of your story’s worth. As you hold it, gently say, “I bless my story and all it holds. I honor every part, trusting that each experience brings wisdom.” Keep this object nearby to remind you that your story is worthy and sacred.
Creative Writing Exercise
List a few moments in your life that felt significant, no matter how “small.” Examples might include a kind word, a quiet walk, or a powerful conversation. After listing these, write a simple affirmation: “My story matters.” Keep this list and affirmation nearby as a reminder whenever you need encouragement.
Non-Writing Creative Exercise: Memory Map
Create a “memory map” using paper and colored markers or crayons. Draw a central shape or figure representing yourself, and then add branches, shapes, or lines outward for important places, people, and moments. Use colors to represent emotions or experiences related to each element. As you add to the map, let it become a visual representation of the meaningful moments that have shaped you.
